“Diversity consciousness will increase our knowledge and stretch our thinking. By learning to interpret events through different cultural lenses, we will be able to think critically and adapt to a large variety of situations.”
- Diversity Consciousness: Opening Our Minds to People, Cultures, and Opportunities

Multi-cultural appreciation activities provide members with an opportunity to explore different ethnicities. The activities are geared towards fostering an understanding and tolerance of all cultures.

Multi-Cultural Center
The aim of our cultural center is to promote cross-cultural understanding through a variety of methods. Multi-cultural appreciation activities, team-building workshops, and leadership activities will form the knowledge base for this understanding. Our aim goes beyond awareness and tolerance and seeks to bridge the cultural gap through cooperative learning techniques. An authentic understanding and appreciation of one’s own heritage and of the ethnicities of others can only heighten the achievements we can accomplish together.

Art Studio
The goal of our Art Studio is to offer a comprehensive art program that encourages the development of artistic abilities in two-dimensional (drawing, painting, and collage) and three-dimensional art (modeling with clay, wood craft, and assemblage sculpture). The Art Studio offers two tracks of programs to accomplish this goal – introductory activities and skills development. Introductory activities targeting each age group will expose members to a broad spectrum of arts and crafts experiences. Skills development programs will begin with the fundamentals of art and develop members’ abilities in distinct artistic disciplines.

Creating Artist
This is a drop in program that encourages members to use a broad spectrum of artistic styles ant to create folk craft projects. All programs nurture the creative spirit of the individual. Age appropriate activities are available to all members.

XL Art Workshops
These workshops are specially designed instructional classes in 2-dimential and 3-dimential art, as well as photojournalism. Members will improve their artistic skills. These programs are open to Junior and Intermediate aged members by registration only.

Media Lab
“Youth are the defining users of media culture. They are the first generation to grow up surrounded by and immersed in digital technologies.”
- Center for Media Education

The focus of the media lab is to provide a forum that allows youth to explore a multitude of media tools to express themselves. The media lab will utilize digital technology as a means for this communication. Media technology will be the catalyst for youth to learn about verbal and non-verbal forms of expression, ways to document real life events, and employ a variety of methods to create or depict fictional events. Everything from photography to video technology to newspaper production will be taught to members of all ages.

Visual and Performing Arts
These events are held quarterly. Members are encouraged to display their abilities by entering their work in art and photography in an exhibit or perform in our annual talent show.
