This past October, four Gerry Clubhouse members, Jose Morales, Jaylen Downer, Javier Calaf and Gabriel Morales visited Harlem Seeds’ kitchen to participate in a cooking demonstration.
With the help of Harlem Seeds Director, Stephanie Mack, the boys showed off their culinary skills by making a delicious veggie stir-fry in the Harlem Seeds Kitchen for their parents and relatives to enjoy.
The BCNY boys were selected to partake in the demo following Jose and Javier's food-share scholarship they received last year, titled “Elliot’s Share.” As a part of the scholarship and their involvement in Harlem Community Share Association’s (CSA) healthy eating program, Javier and Jose received farm fresh produce for their families once a week, for 8 weeks. The Harlem C.S.A., located on 116th Street, works with local farmers and families in the Harlem community to make farm-fresh produce accessible to everyone. “We work to make access to local, organic produce a reality for people of all incomes in Harlem by making cooperative use of the resources of our members,” said the CSA Fundraising and Finance Department.
We thank CSA and Harlem Seeds for their partnership, and for further educating our boys with healthy eating habits.
