On Thursday, December 15th, over 120 BCNY alums from the Jefferson Park/Gerry, Flushing/Abbe, Tompkins Square/Harriman, Pitt Street/Milliken Clubhouses came together for an evening of dinner and reminiscing.
In addition to the alumni from the clubhouses, there were a considerable amount of alums from Camp Carey, Tabor, Harriman and Cromwell who joined in the evening’s festivities.
The gathering began with opening remarks from Elbridge T. (Ebby) Gerry, Jr.; a longstanding BCNY Trustee and whom the Gerry Clubhouse was named after. He shared his experience volunteering with Group Clubs at BCNY and the profound and lasting impact this experience has had with him. The evening was filled with countless stories similar to Ebby’s. Ed Rappa, BCNY Board President and Marty Bunce, former BCNY Executive Director were a part of such discussions, where alums circled to talk about the good old days.
Nate Kemler, Don Cangelosi, Derrick Lewis and Antonio Aponte spoke movingly about where the Alumni Organization is today and more importantly, where it will be tomorrow and into the future. Nate Kemler touched on how important it is for all alums to "stay connected and get involved if we are to continue moving the Alumni Legacy forward."
The evening ended with the honoring of Raymond (Whitey) Karpa for his many years of service to the Alumni Association. Whitey was the first recipient of the Alumni Legacy Award.
