December 3rd marked the first time a BCNY track team has competed in the AAU Cross Country Nationals.
Matthew Nieves (Gerry), Tory Brown (Abbe), and Tyshaun Hamilton (Abbe) competed in the national competition held at Disney Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida. Nieves placed 14th overall in the country for the 12 year old 3k run and both Brown and Hamilton placed in the top 50 for the 13 year old 4K run.
“This experience will give us motivation for the upcoming indoor and outdoor seasons. We now know that there is a lot of competition all over the country and we want to be prepared for when we see these guys again,” said a confident yet humble Brown.
In addition to their national success, the BCNY Track Club will be competing in the Millrose Games for the 4th year in a row. On January 11th, the 12 & Under 4X200 meter relay team of Taj Saunders (Gerry), Jonathan Grant (Abbe), Abel Ngala (Gerry), and Anthony Marquez (Gerry) placed second overall at the Millrose Trials and qualified for the 2012 Millrose Games. Although the team finished 2nd, they ran 1:52.70 which is the fastest recorded time in the five year history of the BCNY Track & Field. The Finals at the Millrose Games will be contested on February 11, 2012 at the New Balance Track & Field Center at the 168th Street Armory.
