The Department of Educational Services is made up of the following staff of dedicated people: 

Mr. Antonio Aponte
Director of Educational Services

Mr. Aponte oversees the administration of the Department of Educational Services (DES), which includes the ISP Program, the Academic All-Stars, the Parents Advisory Board, the Independent Boarding School Fair and all other outreach and support programs. Mr. Aponte, a BCNY ISP Program alumnus, attended the Moses Brown School in Providence, RI and received a B.S. from Syracuse University. Mr. Aponte has served as the Director of Admissions and Student Retention for SUNY Purchase, and as an adjunct faculty member in the Drama Studies Program.  He also served as the Director of Recruitment and Marketing for Lehman College and developed a number of recruitment initiatives that increased minority enrollment at both campuses. Mr. Aponte is also President and Co-Founder of the Latino College Expo, Inc., the largest College Fair in the Northeast targeting Latino students and has over 20 years of placement, admissions and program development experience.

 

Mr. Bill Mitchell

Mr. Mitchell heads the ISP Program’s placement and post placement services and is charged with building school relationships, reaching out to students, networking with admissions personnel and increasing the number of participating schools and boys placed. Mr. Mitchell has 25 years of experience in youth development and project management. He has been with BCNY since 2001, most recently as an Assistant Clubhouse Director. Mr. Mitchell received his BA from York College of Pennsylvania, a Masters in Social History from the University of Wisconsin and a Masters in Education Psychology from Fordham University.

Mr. Sean Atkins

Mr. Atkins is the head coach of the Academic All-Stars Basketball Team and is responsible for their academic performance and applications to prep schools as well as the organization of the BCNY Holiday Classic, one of the biggest prep school basketball tournaments in the Northeast. Mr. Atkins also does post-placement support for general ISP students. Mr. Atkins, an ISP Program alumnus, graduated from the Darlington School with honors as an outstanding student-athlete. He earned a B.A. from Bates College, where he majored in Psychology and African-American Studies and was a football All-American.

Mr. Agosto joins the DES after serving the BCNY After School Academy Program at the Gerry, Jr. Clubhouse in East Harlem for the past two years.  Mr. Agosto works closely with all of the DES programs to ensure effective delivery of services.  Mr. Agosto serves as a liaison between the Independent School Placement program and the independent day and boarding schools.  In the spring, he will also serve as an assistant coach for the newly established Academic All-Star Baseball coach.  Mr. Agosto, an ISP alumnus, served as the school president and was a tri-varsity captain of football, basketball and baseball at The St. George’s School.  Mr. Agosto earned his B.A. from Bates College, where he majored in Psychology.  Mr. Agosto focused his thesis on the contributing factors to high risk behavior among young adults.

Ms. Nina Pina

Ms. Pina supports all areas of the DES, including collecting program data and managing office systems. Ms. Pina also plays a significant role in organizing the Parent Association Board (PAB) Annual Spring Dinner and is a leader in the PAB’s fundraising efforts. Ms. Pina received her BA from Universidad de Barcelona in Spain and attended the IBM Business School. Ms. Pina is fluent in English and Spanish.
