Milliken Clubhouse's News
On Friday, August 15, 2003 the Milliken Clubhouse of The Boys’ Club of New York located at the corner of Pitt and Houston Streets permanently closed its doors. The decision to close was not an easy one for the Trustees and executive staff of the Agency, as they were fully aware how much the Clubhouse meant to everyone. While they understood the sense of loss, there were two major factors that drove this decision that could not be overlooked – the gentrification of the surrounding area and the tough economic climate BCNY was facing.
Still, The Boys' Club committed itself to continuing to provide services to the youth of that community. To facilitate this, BCNY has been providing free daily bus shuttle service from the Milliken Clubhouse neighborhood to the Harriman Clubhouse. The Harriman Clubhouse is located approximately 12 city blocks from the current Milliken Clubhouse at the corner of 10th Street and Avenue A.
Bus service has been provided by “Rosado Bus Services” of Corona, NY 11368, (718) 699-7575. Proper supervision has been provided at all times with two part time staff members stationed on the bus and in the waiting area supervising new arrivals. An adult serving as the Bus Shuttle Service Supervisor has been hired to oversee the program and communicate with families. If you require additional information, please call 212-533-2552.
Habib Ullah Honored
The Jefferson Park Alumni Association will be recognizing Mr. Habib Ullah, former Director of the Harriman Clubhouse and Assistant Director of the Jefferson Park Clubhouse and staff member of the long-ago Central Park Clubhouse, for his 31 years of dedicated service to The Boys' Club of New York. This tribute will take place at the Alumni Association's Annual Dinner Dance April 3rd, 2004, at the Villa Barone Manor in the Bronx. For additional information, please call dinner chair Anthony Sisti at (718) 829-5010.

In addition, general counseling related to health issues and referrals of more acute / chronic issues to outside health community centers is available through the support of a qualified Health Director.

Holiday Classic
Fifteen of the nation’s top prep school basketball teams and The Boys’ Club of New York’s (BCNY) own Academic All-Stars returned to Basketball City to participate in BCNY’s ninth annual Holiday Classic. The tournament is an opportunity for BCNY to showcase multiple talents. In addition to hosting and running the tournament, BCNY fields a competitive team, the Academic All-Stars, a group of young men who combine competitive play with a focus on school achievement and college preparation. In addition, many of the young men BCNY has placed in prep schools, through the Independent School Placement Program (ISP), play on the prep school teams. This year 10 young men, placed by BCNY in prep schools, played on 7 of the competing teams in the tournament.
