Express Yourself: Visual & Performing Arts

Our Art Department focuses on three main categories: Visual, Digital,  and Performing Arts .  Our outstanding music program offers private and group music instruction with professional musicians iexpress_yourselfn state of the art music studios.  Boys can also explore drama and dance, both as performers and as spectators.  Popular performances include Abbe Playhouse Dinner Theater, BCNY Idol talent show, and Step Dancing demonstrations.

The art studios are a place for members to express themselves through painting, sculpture, and dark-room photography.  Crafting supplies and projects are also made available for DIY members.  Boys can also learn graphic animation, filmmaking, photoshop and music production.

Music Production

Teen Members learn the steps to creating an original song, from developing new beats to crafting their own lyrics.  Using music production equipment, Teens will learn about audio engineering and recording as well as music technology. Working with professional musicians in a real recording studio, members will make their very own EP by the end of the program


Graphic Design

Members learn basic design concepts and techniques and are introduced to graphic design software, including Adobe Photoshop.



Members create their own computer animations, clay animations, special effects, and even short films. 



Members act in small BCNY plays and productions, learning communication skills and building confidence while l enhancing their literacy skills and exploring a new creative outlet.



Members have the opportunity to learn and perform different forms of dance, including step, salsa, and breakdancing.  Watch a video of Members breakdancing here.


Cultural Arts

The Cultural Arts Department is dedicated to introducing members to cultural diversity through a variety of engaging games, stories, arts and crafts projects, food, and dance. 


Visual Arts

Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, etc: Members have access to innumerable studio art materials and are encouraged to participate in group art projects as well as create their own original artwork.



Members learn photography basics as well as advanced techniques. Members can also explore darkroom photography and develop their own photos in one of BCNY’s two Clubhouse darkrooms.  


Music Education

The Music Education Department has state-of-the-art music studios and equipment. The instructors are professional musicians providing lessons in guitar, bass, drums, piano, saxophone, flute, violin, mandolin, vibes, and chorus in both private and small-groups, guiding members from beginner to advanced levels.
