Why Give?

A message from the Executive Director

Individuals today are concerned that the donations they make to youth-serving organizations are used efficiently and that the money they give will have a significant and lasting impact on the lives of our children. At BCNY our total focus is on the most significant positive outcome we can work toward: helping at-risk boys of New York City grow up into mature, successful young men. While the challenges facing our boys are real and daunting, we have seen first-hand the results that can occur when dedicated, compassionate people work together with boys and their families to develop young men who truly embody the BCNY principals of character, community, civility, and citizenship.   We make a commitment to every boy who joins BCNY that we will work tirelessly to provide him with the skills, confidence, and discipline that will enable him to reach for the sky and achieve his full potential.  It is with great confidence and pride that we are able to guarantee that every dollar you donate to BCNY will be used to help ensure the strength of our next generation.  A donation to BCNY represents a real and tangible way of helping our boys realize their dreams.  There can be no better investment in our children’s future than that.

Stephen Tosh,

Executive Director, The Boys' Club of New York

Teach A Boy to Swim

According to the CDC, 5-to 14-year-old African Americans drown at 3/1 times the rate of whites in that age range. And African-American kids are five times as likely as white kids to drown in swimming pools. At BCNY, we keep our boys safe by teaching ALL of them to swim.

Provide Music Lessons for One Boy for a Year

Music study enhances children's ability to learn other academic subjects and has a positive effect on self-esteem and perceptual-motor skills. While our member's families cannot afford private lessons, BCNY's Josie Robertson School of Music and Art provides virtually free instruction in voice and instrument to over 350 boys annually.

$2,000.00

Provide Tutoring for One Middle School Boy for a Year

Crowded classrooms, overworked teachers, and overburdened parents put our members at considerable disadvantage when compared with their peers attending schools in more affluent neighborhoods. BCNY's Learning Centers give our boys an academic boost by offering free one-on-one tutoring in any subject area to anyone who needs assistance.

$3,000.00

Provide Tuition for One Boy at the Robert M. Gardiner School

BCNY's summer residential school helps first generation college-bound junior high school boys from low-income communities achieve grade level and transition smoothly to high school. The Gardiner School also helps remediate "summer learning loss," a cause of considerable and enduring disparities in academic and social achievement between poor and middle-class children.
