At a press conference held June 17 in front of Abbe Clubhouse, At The Table, Congresswoman Grace Meng, and Flushing Bank announced a new leadership initiative—At The Table Academy—that will provide key life skills training to high school and college students. BCNY will serve as a community partner and host site for the first event—a Resume Writing and Interview Preparedness Workshop—to take place on Tuesday, July 9th, from 5pm-7pm, facilitated by Flushing Bank.
“I am very excited that At The Table is officially launching its Academy, which will prepare our next generation of leaders,” said Sandra Ung, Executive Director of At The Table, which educates and empowers young people by teaching them valuable skill sets needed to ensure future success.
At the workshop, students will receive interview training and learn how to create a resume. The workshop will run for two hours, with the first section (30-45 minutes) focusing on basic writing skills and interview tips. The rest of the time will be devoted to one-on-one resume review. The workshop will be led by Ling Xu, Vice President of Flushing Bank, Queens Area Manager.
“The Boys’ Club is grateful to Representative Grace Meng, At The Table Academy, and Flushing Bank for their steadfast commitment to giving back to the community and empowering our young people,” said Alexander Bennett, Educational Director at BCNY’s Abbe Clubhouse.
The workshop is FREE and open to the public! Students interested in the one-on-one resume review should email their resumes to Sandra@atthetablepac.com by July 2nd.
“This initiative provides students with the opportunity to learn essential skills that they normally would not in a classroom,” said Congresswoman Meng. “My hope is that this initiative continues that mission and will help students better prepare for their futures.”
