Prince, a 16-year-old self-described “ethnomusicologist” has been an active member of the Boys’ Club since he joined as a 6 year-old Explorer.
During the past ten years at BCNY Prince has learned to swim, created works of arts, joined group clubs and held an internship through our Teen Internship Program. But Prince always returns to his true love: the Music Education Program. He has sung with the chorus, and studied piano, bass and drums. Prince’s love of music began at home, where he grew up listening to his father, a professional jazz pianist. Today, the 11th Grader plays both the drums and bass in his high school band school while also taking lessons at BCNY.
Music is more than a passion for Prince. It has been a refuge. Prince’s father, Leugene, recently passed away, taking with him the music that filled Prince’s home. To deal with his grief, Prince has thrown himself into rehearsals, surrounded by his music family of peers and instructors and showing the strength of character he has developed as a BCNY member.
The Boys’ Club of New York is incredibly sorry for loss of Leugene, a wonderful father and musician.
