The Boys’ Club of New York hosted SUITED UP, our annual initiative to provide every BCNY teen and teens from surrounding communities with a complimentary suit for prom, graduation, college and job interviews, on May 12th and 13th at Harriman Clubhouse. Thanks to the overwhelming support from donors, professional volunteer stylists, women’s board members, hardworking BCNY staff, and Macy’s, SUITED UP was an overwhelming success:
200 teens received suits
63 volunteers helped organize, fit, style and tailor the boys
252 new and gently used suits were donated
SUITED UP provided complimentary suits to more than 200 teens.
On Friday and Saturday, over 60 volunteers from BALENCIAGA and Ferragamo, stylists, seamstresses, CEO Luca Voarino, and celebrity stylist Sean Spellman, came to the Boys’ Club and got to work as if they were in their own showroom. Everything was perfection, from the color-coordinated racks of shirts to the pinwheel of neckties, the dressing rooms, and the final look. When the crowds of boys came through the doors to “Suit Up”, they were first greeted by a video message from A-Rod promising them the power of a strong suit with guidance from Sean Spellman. The volunteer stylists gave every boy their full attention: helping each teen sort through the racks; measuring, fitting, and pinning; finding the perfect tie to complete the look.
All in all over 200 boys participated in Suited Up. Each came away with a complete outfit—suit, shirt, tie, socks—for prom, graduation, or that important job interview.
Every boy got his red-carpet moment too, and the proof is in the pictures!
Thank you again to the amazing community that helped make this initiative happen, and to the boys whose giant smiles and confident “suited up” swagger who made our day.
