Thank you to everyone who joined Team BCNY and marched with us in the March of Dimes March for Babies in New York City! We are so inspired by our Youth Council members and those of you who supported them. We are so proud to announce that we exceeded our fundraising goal of $6,000 and we’re still counting!

BCNY Service Project: March of Dimes
In February, 21 elected representatives from all three clubhouses gathered for the first ever BCNY Youth Council Leadership Summit.
Youth Council provides an opportunity for members to create pathways for meaningful change within the clubhouses. Each clubhouse has a Council of six peer-elected officers: President and Vice President (both elected from the Teen Center), two Junior Representatives, and two Explorer Representatives. The Youth Council’s main responsibility is ensuring that the voices of their peers are represented and heard by BCNY staff.
At the Youth Council Leadership Summit representatives planned spring and summer service learning projects focusing on social responsibility and helping communities in need.
Members brainstormed ways they could support causes like breast cancer research and combating HIV/AIDS and surveyed fellow clubhouse members about what issues they think are important and the best ways to support them. After crowd-sourcing and additional research, each clubhouse pitched their cause and fundraising ideas in a Youth Council Leadership Summit “Shark Tank” to each other and volunteers from our Boards and the community.
The March of Dimes was the cause chosen! It is a nonprofit organization that works to improve the health of mothers and babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
Youth Council members have launched fundraising efforts at all three clubhouses to support the March of Dimes and have organized a BCNY team to walk in the NYC March of Dimes March for Babies on Sunday, April 29.
